I started this collage before the Masa one and gave up on it. But I don't like to give up, so I went back to it today. The camera cropped it a little close on the sides - it's really a square. I'll try to get a better photo if the weather is better tomorrow. This was done with stained and torn washi (rice papers) mounted on Arches 300 lb. rough 11 x 11 inches. The element of design is still "texture".

Michelle, it's beautiful! I absolutely love the colors...and the texture is just so great! I have never tried collage...but this is a pretty inspiring piece. Glad you finished it and showed it to us!

Mickey - That washi gives it such great texture. It almost looks like a stone wall behind the ti leaves. I'm glad you didn't give up on this one.
Thanks, Tracy, Nava & Joan. I wasn't sure that I like this until I added a few details with a brush, let it dry and put it in a mat. It pays not to give up too soon.
Michelle, this is beautiful both the texture and the colors. I enjoy your blog. I wonder if you got all colors from the Masa or do you have to paint your colors on the white Masa. This is inspiring; I may try this some time.

On the masa painting, I painted the subject directly on the white masa paper.
On this one, the collage, I stained pieces of various types of washi (oriental papers) with watercolor. When they dried, I tore them to the shapes I wanted and collaged them. When the collage was all assembled, I added a few final touches here and there with a brush.
This is so cool. You area design master, and so good with color! Love it.
Very nice. I have never tried collage. What do you use to attach them? Very nice colors and the texture is great.
