This is the third version of the Ti plant, focusing on TEXTURE. My first effort for this one was a collage, which I was not too happy with, so I got out my trusty Masa paper. Crumpled Masa creates great texture, and I love the way the paint settles in the cracks. I used an underpainting of Quinacridone Gold (my "mother color"), various greens, blues and reds, sometimes mixed with the Quin Gold and sometimes on their own. I think I'm ready to move on to something new now.

This looks great. Don't quit now. When you are sick to death of your subject is when you get really, really creative. It's part of the process. See if you can go the whole month with the same subject and see what happens!
It should be interesting if you follow Myrna's advice. I don't know if I would be able to do that. This looks good on the masa paper! The texture adds a lot to this. I like it much better than the collage you showed me, but I think you should still work more on the collage and see what happens with it.
There's a sophistication that's developed in this painting. keep at it. VERY good!
Delicious color and texture! I am going to see if I can find some of that paper...I love what I have seen done on it. I like what Myrna said- "when you are sick to death of your subject is when you get really, really creative". That sounds like a challenge...the "I dare ya" kind! Keep at it!!
Do you mount the crumpled masa paper on the watercolor paper before painting? What are you using for mounting? I have masa in my studio, but haven't used it.
Amazing effect with this paper! Hope you'll do some more in the future :)
