I painted this snow scene with just Paynes gray for a project on one of my watercolor forums. It's from a photo I took a week and a half ago when we had almost 2 feet of snow.
I am a watercolor artist living in New Jersey. I am a member of the North East Watercolor Society, the New Jersey Watercolor Society, and several local and internet art organizations through which I exhibit my paintings. My favorite subjects are close focused florals and landscapes. I've recently begun teaching a beginning watercolor class at our local senior center.

Wow Michelle, you accomplished so much with one color. Awesome.
Mickey - This came out great!!! The paynes grey was perfect for all that snow!!! I like it a lot!!
Thanks, Ai. There wasn't much color in real life that day, just white snow and dark trees. So it was easy to paint it that way.
Thanks, Joan. That's about all I use paynes gray for - monochromatic studies. But it worked out perfect for the snow scene.
Oh my, this is hauntingly beautiful--I absolutely love it!! I don't think I would know how to begin to paint an all-snow scene!
Thank you, Laura. I wasn't sure I knew how to do it either, but I had an idea in mind and I went with it, and I guess it worked.
This is an excellent exercise to try, thanks for inspiration!
